When African slaves migrated to Puerto Rico they were treated no better or kinder than slavery in any other country. Most Africans were shipped to other countries in the 1690's. It was around 1789 that slaves in Puerto Rico were allowed to earn money and buy their freedom. By March 22, 1873 slavery was abolished in Puerto Rico. ( Site: Kwekuee-tripdownmemorylane)
